The Let Down

I was about to ask him a question, but it seemed like he had read my mind. "I'm afraid you can't get back the way you came, either. We've found that the vortices are one way."

Upon hearing this double dose of bad news, I ask for another drink, which Tam went to get for me. While he had gone, I thought about my future. It looked like I was stuck here for a large part of my life, a situation I wasn't very happy with, regardless of how nice Russilinia seemed. That brought to mind something else. When I entered Russilinia's orbit, I was greeted by an automated message. Now the Russilinians wouldn't have bothered with that unless there had been other victims of the strange vortex. When Tam returned, I decided to ask him about it. Tam thought for a bit. "True, there has been. Not all of them had decided to pay us a visit, though. Why do you ask?"
