The crew took it hard today. I would write you more of the tragedy, but cannot bear the tears now. I'm sure you have heard through the Air Force channels anyway. I am thankful that the Lady made it most of the way home on courage and guts, the likes of which I shall never see from any plane ever again.

I am all the more determined to fight and to do my duty. The Germans are coming at us with greater desperation against our bombers. We will win this war.

I hope that Sally is well. I miss her fair skin now more than ever. My thoughts are with you and dad, and will be always. Give my love to Pete and Robert. I'm so proud that Robert has also enlisted to serve in the skies.
