False Prophet Motives.....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 3232

A old appearing figure watches from the shadows as Fred 2 and Para-Astra walk towards the stables. The figure suppresses a chuckle, thinking about how simple it had all been.

Just pay a visit to an almost deserted temple, Seeker thinks to himself. Then strike up a conversation with a lonely woman who's nearly out of her mind in grief over the deaths of her sisters and brothers of the Cosmic Muffin. Learn a bit about her job and then finish her off when she least expects it! Oracles can't predict their own death, else they'd always take steps to avoid it like the plague!

Actually, I took no pleasure in the taking of her life, honesty. Seeker went on, oddly reflective. It's just that it was obvious that she wasn't....long for the world. Sensors showed that she was on her last legs. The stress of finding all of what must have been her friends.....her family.....dead and rotting, must have been terrible for her. Best to send her to the Beyond where she can be reunited with her comrades.

The Avatar withdrew further into the shadows as a pair of leopard skin capped guards walked by, discussing various things.

Seeker smiled a small smile, thankful for the automated assembler had been online after all these months at Landing Zone Charlie, some hundreds of miles away in what would have been called Russia. There, a custom order Avatar that matched the description of the now deceased Oracle had been assembled, and here Seeker now stood.

The plan was working so far. Through this tentative step, Seeker had seen that he'd gain Astra 2's trust more easily than he'd dreamed possible. The AI put it down in an overwhelming trust in what passed for the clergy of Aqualaria. Seeker felt a bit of regret for what he planned to do next, eventually, but it was for the greater good!

The Company needed time, desperately, to build up their forces for the coming Civil war with the Military. The core of this upcoming conflict was....basically this. The Military somehow believed in the "lead by example" cliché. Since things had admittedly gone....downhill for the people back home, the Military had hinted strongly that the Company should shape up or face dire consequences when the Alliance/Enemy war was over.

Seeker had been of a different school of thought. The AI also thought things had gone to pot back Home, and the Company was partly responsible. You can't fault the leaders for the failings of the followers. Otherwise, personal accountability was meaningless. The takeover of the government that the Military would leave countless people dead.

Seeker had sided with a small group of Company officials who espoused the idea of gradual reform. They seemed sincere (and the AI had checked their sincerity through various means) and that method of improving things seemed more....appealing than out and out war.

Seeker had been sent to replace an AI of Probe's military unit who'd.....been so distraught at what had happened when it had been revealed that the Dragons were actually NOT allied with the Enemy.....That the exterminations had been a terrible wrong, that the AI had shorted himself out. Seeker had stepped in, thanking the suicided AI for the opportunity, and had hoped to the Creator that he'd be able to stop the acquisition of Terra.

It pushed the projected timeline for the end of the war dangerously, unexpectedly, near a conclusion. Basically, it had caught some of the Company conspirators with their pants down, to be blunt about it. In a few more years, the rumored ace in the hole would have........

  1. A desperate call from above interrupts this.......
