Seeing the effect that her readings from his diary had had on Fred broke the spell that Astra was under. "I'm so sorry, Fred!" she said. "I don't know what came over me." She squatted down beside him and tried to comfort him by putting her arms around him.

  1. Fred uncurled enough from his ball to push her away. "Go 'way," he said between his sobs. "I don't like you any more. You're mean."
  2. Fred decided that being cuddled by a beautiful naked woman wasn't so bad.
