Since Astra's room faced out the back, nobody had seen her leap from the window. She hammered on the back door, but Betty did not come.

Never the most patient of people, her recent experiences had made Astra even less so. She wasn't prepared to wait for long. Though the back door was locked, Betty had left a ground floor window open, and Astra climbed in through it.

Astra searched the house, but there was no sign of the sorceress.

  1. But she found a magic box which was showing moving pictures, together with associated sounds and speech. Astra tried to make sense of American TV.
  2. The phone rang, startling Astra.
  3. The witch's familiars (aka Betty's two cats) came to investigate.
