The Grey-Robed Figure

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 31275

A figure came into view over the ridge ahead of them. Fred's hand instinctively went to the hilt of his sword, though if this was truly the Land of the Dead then a weapon would probably avail him little he reflected. After all, how could you harm someone who was already dead? Though Astra, for all that she believed herself to be dead, still seemed to be as she had been in life, so perhaps it would be possible to hurt the dead after all.

As the figure drew closer, they saw that it wore a long grey robe with a hood that hid its face. It headed directly towards them. When it had come within about five yards of where they were standing, to their relief it stopped.

"Please would you tell me, Sir," Astra said, her voice cracking just a little, "where are we? Is this the Land of the Dead?"

The figure chuckled, which unnerved them even further. Then it said:

  1. "Why yes, it is." But it was a female voice, not a male one. Perhaps Astra's mistaken assumption had caused the chuckle.
  2. "Goodness me, no! Whatever gave you that idea?" "Well, for one thing, dead bodies don't normally just disappear," Fred pointed out.
  3. "As I am now, you shall be." It seemed to be looking at Astra. Then its cowl fell back to reveal a fleshless skull.
