The Evidence of Their Eyes

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 31268

Artizza 3:

The carpet is coming down, and presumably the hunters who have fired on it will now be closing in so they can attempt to finish off those who were travelling on it. Judging by the direction that the arrows came from, they will be approaching the grounded carpet from a direction about ninety degrees away from where we are. Meanwhile, still in our (hopefully safe) hiding place, we have a hurried discussion about what we should do. Should we say that this is none of our business, keep out of it and be off about our quest?

The carpet has come down out of our sight now, but elven eyes are very sharp. and before it came down both my sister and I were able to get quite a good look at those who had been flying on it. There were a man and a woman that we didn't recognise [though the Fertals might have recognised the man, if their eyesight had been a fraction better]; there was a woman who we definitely did recognise - as far as we could tell she was identical to the way we ourselves had looked as humans when we were aged eighteen or so; and two pairs of dark elves that appeared an exact match for me and my love (or for my "sister" and her love for that matter). But strangely enough, the clinching factor for me is that there were two light elves aboard. Now most intelligent species have good and evil members, and I can even imagine an evil analog of myself. But I've never ever heard of an evil light elf. I simply can't believe that two of them could be working for Angar.

I make these points, and add that those who are hunting them seem to be from the same group that we have already encountered and found to be hostile. If those on the carpet are their enemies, as seems to be the case, then - as the old saying has it - my enemy's enemy is my friend.

  1. Artizza 4, who has seen what I have seen of those on the carpet, agrees with me, but our respective beloveds seem inclined to take the opposite view.
