After several hours of trekking through the foothills, Fred was tired,
sore, and not a little resentful. He wondered why the map had
decieved him--after all, it was said to have been made by the
cartographer/sorcerer Hai'Erum, and had the power to update itself.
Then again, the Dragon was said to be a creature of powerful magic,
who could easily disrupt such a spell. Far more worrying was the
woman. Although clearly strong, she was a woman in dire need, and
Fred had to aid her. And she was very beautiful as well. Yet surely
that made it all the more likely that she was a trap of the Dragon, sent
to beguile him... Yet why would she make statements that would
make him suspicious of her if that were true? No, there had to be
another explanation, strange though it may be.
Fred saw a very large nomad camp ahead. He gained in confidence and eagerness as he moved ahead. After the long and tiring journey to the caves, being dragged through an underground current, and another long journey through the foothills, he could use some rest. As he approached the camp, however, he became suspicious. He had seen one of these camps before as a child, when his father had come with the King to negotiate with the tribes' leader. One of the things that had struck him so much about the camp was how full of life it was. This place was silent and dead. When Fred approached the camp with Astra still on her stretcher, he saw there was no rest forthcoming. The dead bodies of the nomads were littered on the ground.
