Seemed the universe believed in second chances, as he was dumped in front
of the caves again. Time had been reset. A painful whack on the head
signalled the arrival of his sword. Fortunately it hit him hilt
first. Once he'd recovered enough and retrieved his sword, he decided to take the left entrance again. Here, once again, he met Velus, though Velus didn't lead him to the animals this time. Or any of the other things he would come across in alternate timelines. Velus led him to a narrow ledge in a huge cavern where the floor and ceiling were lost in the gloom. Ahead of them was the only way across, a narrow bridge of rock. Considering it appeared to be the only way further into the caves, he was surprised it wasn't guarded at all. Then he realised why. Weighed down by his armour, it would probably collapse. He was certain Velus would be able to cross easy enough, not that it would help him much. He was contemplating going back and trying the right enterance when he heard an ominous rumble from behind. He turned to see his route back cut off by a large iron gate. Velus whined. It appeared that they were trapped. There was no choice but for Velus to attempt to across the bridge and see if he could find something to help Fred.
