Fred's Story

"No," Steve said. "You see, my mother had me from her marriage to her first husband, who was a commoner. It was only after he died in mysterious circumstances that she married the Duke of Suffex and became the Lady Champlaine. Then, nine months and a day afterwards, Lord Fred was born. Actually, the Duke of Suffex was always very good to me - at least until that unfortunate business with Exotica."

"So when you were banished, you decided that you'd redeem yourself by going on a quest to kill the Dragon."

"No. I was on my way out of Allaria. I only went into the caves to shelter from the rain, but I got lost. Then I found you, and wanted to impress you, so I made up that story about being Lord Fred on a quest to kill the Dragon."

1. "I forgive you," Astra said. "Since then you've shown yourself to be a brave and loyal companion. And it could have been worse. At least you're not an accountant."
2. "I can never forgive you for your deception," Astra said.
