Fred had been wondering about the Princess's state of mind for some
time, and having heard her "plan" he was now sure that she was totally
insane. Most probably Princess Exotica, and perhaps even Sir Toby, did
not really exist but were part of her delusion, he thought. But Astra
still had his sword, and he did not want to risk provoking her, so he
said only: "Are you sure?"
"Certainly," Astra said with breezy confidence. "It's a great plan. Here, try on your costume." Fred knew that she had had no opportunity since they had left the caves to get any paper, still less to make costumes. But she held out her hand at arm's length as if she was holding something, and Fred solemnly mimed taking the "costume" from her. "You'll have to be careful when you light your torch not to set the paper on fire," Astra warned him. "Of course," Fred agreed. "Put it on," Astra told him. At the same time she mimed pulling on her own non-existent costume over her naked body.
