Charles the Ghost

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 29224

"Booo hoo hoo," cried the ghost.

"Aww, what's the matter?" Andrea asked the entity, a little surprised she wasn't as shaken as one might be given the circumstances.

The ghost looked startled, and quickly assumed a more dignified position. Even in his ethereal state, he still appeared to be dressed in the finery of nobles. Andrea thought she had seen a similar figure in a painting once, on one of her frequent visits to Caemlyn. "I, I didn't see anyone here. I wasn't crying...I was...pining for the...fjords. But I wasn't crying!"

"You look awfully familiar," Andrea astutely noted. "Where do I know you from?"

"Alright, I can see that this rouse is going to get me nowhere. My name is Charles the First, king of this castle, and I'm not pining for the fjords...I am weeping for my loss, m'lady."

"What happened?"

"Everyone thought I was annoying," he replied frankly. "My jokes always went over the staffmembers heads, my genius was wasted on idiots! So they decided to poison me."

"Well why did they abandon the castle?"

"Why, because my body still lurks through the dark corridors of this spooky place to exact revenge on those who plotted my demise, a flesh-eating zombie, if you will. No one dares venture near the ACS anymore."

"Oh dear," Andrea muttered.

"What's the matter?"

Andrea hesitated. "Well it's...just that...I have this Quest I'm in the middle of. I've got to remove the Stains of Terrible Ickiness from some important shield with this special dishcloth...that I believe rests in this very place."

Charles whistled. "Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you. My undead corpse is sure to smell your fresh blood the moment you enter the castle, and I'm afraid I have absolutely no control over it. He'll eat your brains out. And if Sir Mordred found you..."

"Sir Mordred?"

Charles nodded. "He was one of the few who stuck up for me. He was killed in a completely unrelated event. Mauled by a grizzly bear, you see, while he was camping near Mt. Cicatrice. Well, to make a long story short, he now haunts these halls, his ghostly being still suited in a fine set of plate armour. If he sees you, he will dance with you. Seems he's finally found his true passion after leaving the veils of the mortal plane. He's a fine waltzer now."

Andrea pondered her predicament and decided...

  1. she had no other choice but to fulfill her Quest. She thanked the ghost for his insightful warnings and struck off on her own.
  2. to try to talk Charles into accompanying her, since he probably knew his way around the ACS.
  3. she would need to find a failproof way of slaying undead monsters before she continued...
