Siva made a face. "You have used what I judge, from the knowledge that I have gained of your tongue, to be a pejorative term. I would prefer to be called a mage. I still sense distrust in you, even fear, despite my earlier reassurances. Is it that I am a stranger, from far away? Or that I am a magic user? Whatever the reason, you need not fear me, for our interests are allied. We both want to kill the Dragon."

"If the beast is still alive," Fred pointed out.

"That is a good point. I had forgotten for the moment how much time must have elapsed, judging by how the surroundings of the column of light had changed. So I suppose all we can do is search these caverns, in the hope of finding either the Dragon or some evidence of his demise."

"You said that you were as lost as I am, though. That's not a very good starting point if we want to carry out a systematic search."

1. "That's true," Siva conceded.
2. "If you would trust me enough to let me cast a spell of Magic Mapping, we need not stay lost," Siva responded. "The one that I cast when I first came to the caves has long since expired."
