Elf-Thoughts

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 28215

Annafrid kept on going, she didn't want to be anywhere near to the place where poor Fertal met his demise. The other elves, Jenny, Tarin, Lueoth and Ia'adoire, fell in behind her. All were in a daze, all were in various states of devastation. What happened shouldn't of happened... but it did. But what did happen? Death? Destruction? Passing? What did all these things mean?

Lueoth gone, gone? gone! what were my thoughts, his thoughts before leaving? before passing? the pain of it all... the confusion and scattering. I felt it... some of it... what in Providence's Name was that?!!? His words... he was babbling, re-living his thoughts [see ep. 27339] but they were all jumbled, he was all jumbled, and now... he is gone.

what was it wilbuckland said long ago and yet to come? the appointment of death by any agency appears in its main results to be a dispensation of benevolence; it deducts from the pain of universal suffering, it abridges the misery of disease and accidental injuries and lingering decay.

yet is not being a Champion an appointment from Providence that results in an equal dispensation of benevolence? wilbuckland also spoke of the salutory restraint upon excessive increase of numbers, the maintainance of the supply of food and materials in due ratio to demand. he was speaking of the animal world, the plant world, the world of creatures. perhaps we have forgotten that we, too, are still creatures. perhaps we have lost sight that immortality is a priviledge and not a right, that--

Jenny poppycock! and you know it!! you are rationalizing! all I know is that Fertal is gone and I miss him, and I'm scared that we will all one day go as he did. I thought--

Tarin What? that being a Champion was a free ride? that we were above all concerns? what happened to Fertal makes me sick! sick to kingdom come! but I tell you I REFUSE to go down in self-pity! I refuse to lay down and wither! in the memory of Fertal I swear I will go on and I will bring justice to this injust world! I, too, heard his cries, felt his confusion. what happened was not right, but it happened. something terrible is in this Cave with us, something that has Power--

Ia'adoire what kind of dragon can do this? we must dispatch it quickly for we have never come across such a raw energy as what we all felt when touching poor Fertal. it was frightening and awe-inspiring and odd in a way I cannot yet piece together. it hurts to even think too long upon it. but even as Tarin is right that we must go on and we must not lose our memory of Fertal, we must take great care not to give in to rage, to anger, to malice. if we do cross that line woe be to anyone who crosses us - woe be to our very souls - for we shall be equal to any monster with gnashing teeth and tearing claw!

  1. and so the groups continue their scramble, will they find their way back to each other? regardless, scattered or gathered, what shall they do?
