Neelix was on trial for trying to kill Janeway. Chakotay was prosecution, while Ensign Suder was defense.
Why had Neelix attempted it?

  1. Too much root beer that morning.
  2. Bribery.
  3. SPACE MADNESS.
  4. Suder had talked him into it.
  5. Janeway was being posessed by evil aliens and only Neelix's Talaxian nervous system could detect it.
  6. Those damn monkeys on Deck 13.
