If Astra was leading a full-scale revolt against Satan, then Fred thought
that she shouldn't be too hard to find. But Purgatory mall seemed very
peaceful, with no sign of a battle going on. A few people shuffled by.
They looked vaguely miserable, as if they were in - well - Purgatory.
Then he spotted a place called Satan's Butt. Surely he should find Satan there? And if he found Satan, then if Astra was intent on overthrowing him she should not be too far away. It turned out that Satan's Butt sold cigarettes and cigars. Fred went in, and his eyes immediately began to water from the thick haze of pungent smoke. What with his eyes watering and the thick smoke, he could hardly see anything, but he moved towards where he hoped the counter might be - and bumped into someone.
