"You Look Like Mommy"

"Yes, you do," the boy said earnestly. He looked to be about seven or so. "Except that Mommy isn't quite as tall. Come and see." Taking Sam by the hand, he started leading her towards the nearer of the two farm-houses.

I guess that settles which farm I should ask for help from, Sam thought to herself.

The boy took Sam to the back door, opened it, and dragged her into what was evidently the kitchen. "Mommy, look!" he called. "I found a lady who looks just like you."

1. But there was no response. "Where's Mommy got to?" the boy said, sounding puzzled.
2. Then he screamed, because Mommy was lying on the floor of the kitchen in a pool of blood.
3. A face framed by red hair poked round the door from the dining room. When the owner of the face saw Sam, her mouth fell open. "Sis! How on Earth did you find me?" she asked.
