Entering the activation code, I ignored the protestations of the scanners.
What I found shocked me. There were fourteen people crammed into the
lifeboat. And I mean crammed, as this particular one had only been
designed to carry four people. Even worse, a couple of those aboard
appeared to be dying. My medical facilities were not that extensive, so I
feared I would not be able to help them out. But I had to do something!
As quickly as I could I docked with the lifeboat.I put on my environmental suit, as the quantity of air left in the small lifeboat would be sparse, not to mention the smell. Entering the lifeboat I saw bodies all around. I soon found I could do nothing for the two dying - both were males - they were already dead. Once I set course for Weston II I went down to question my unexpected passengers. They had all seemed to have recovered. I told them they would have to stay where they were as there was no other space on the ship. To my surprise and relief, none of them seemed bothered by that. I decided now was the time to query them on how they came to be in that situation. They all started talking at once. I held up my hand. "One at a time, please, ladies and gents." I indicated who looked like the oldest member of the group, a male who called himself simply Josh, to be their spokesman. "We are all that is left of a crew of 150," he started. "The rest of the crew are dead, killed by some strange virus." Upon seeing the look on my face, he said...
