Before I got the chance the enter the authorisation code I was hailed on a
low-band frequency. As such there was no visual signal available, so I put
it on the speakers. Boy, was the signal
bad. "... must ... away ... Leave ... danger ... leave ..." While trying to figure this out, the signal was cut in by a high-pitched whine. Someone was blocking it! I glanced at the radar. It was only registering the lifeboat! This meant that whoever was blocking the signal must be cloaked, so I immediately raised the shields. Old the Astra might have been, but I was extremely proud of her shields and engines. They'd got me out of many a scrape. A cloaked vessel usually meant an Imperial Space Authority vessel, either police or military. Or something else entirely. It was something else entirely. A vessel decloaked right in front of the Astra. She was completely alien to me. Hearing a beep from my controls, I realised the alien ship was powering up her weapons. Now I was for it... ...Or so I thought. The alien vessel fired, but not at me. The lifeboat was vapourised. I tensed, thinking it was my turn next. It seemed that that was not its intention, however. I was surprised to note that instead of firing at me, it had powered down its weapons. When the Astra shuddered I suddenly realised why. I had been caught in a tractor beam! A powerful one at that. Escape was impossible, as the resultant stress would have pulled the Astra apart.
