The Task

George stood in line, eagerly awaiting his task. "Please let me not foul this up," was the one thought that George had. The creature in front of him pulled 'clean the stables of Megalothian of forty years worth of cow dung in three days.' The creature looked downcast, crushed by the seeming impossibility of his task.

George heard a clerk yell "Next!" He stepped up, and placed his arm in the box. He drew the slip of paper. The clerk read his task out to him.

George had three days to

1. cross the Roiling River at the Farham Falls, and bring back the Ruby of Ayleswald.
2. measure the outermost length of the circuit of the Great Circle of Eden, to the satisfaction of the Powers-that-Be.
3. bring back a basket of the Pastries of Guile from the Forbidden Bakery for the dessert of the Powers-That-Be.
