Just as Fred was finishing the last of the tender chunks of bloody flesh
that stubornly clung to the bones of the story cop's cannibalized corpse,
something caught his eye. In the distance, towering through the perpetual
mists that now seemed to shroud his homeland of old, he could see a
familiar castle. "Monteforte!" he gasped, nearly choking on a mouthful of
raw meat. "How long and shadowy have the sorrow-filled years been since I
last laid eyes on your hallowed halls!" Despite being haunted by two wraiths, Fred had now forgotten everything else except his distance past. Warm memories flooded his cold mind, creating a pleasant lukewarm effect. "Mmmm," said Fred, still tuned out, "lukewarm..." In a zombie- like trance, he stumbled toward the home of his youth, leaving yet another mutilated mound of defiled remains for the wild scavengers to feast upon. Just like babies, cop-meat didn't seem to give him stomach cramps or heartburn...his bloated and engorged gut gurgled contentedly. As he came ever closer to the maginifcant hall set upon that great hill, the howling of a distant wolf was carried by a chilled wind to his ears. He shivered. Turning toward the western horizon he saw the last rays of the red autumn sun sinking into the bowels of the underworld, departing to make it's nightly battle against the minions of darkness. Then, turning to the east, he beheld a pale-red moon, full and eerily large where it hung low in the darkening sky.
