"Those metal blades look as sharp as razors," Astra observed. "It would be
highly dangerous to try to slip through between them. Maybe you could jam
them with your sword, Fred, so we could get by in safety?" (Following the
death of the dragon and the freeing of Cederik, she had given Fred's sword
back to him.)
"I'd rather not risk damaging it," Fred said. "We are still a long way from home, and we might yet need it to protect us." "How about using some items from the dragon's hoard?" Velus suggested. "There were some golden goblets that might do the job." "Good idea, Velus," everyone said. So they went back to the dragon's lair to collect the goblets. (Cederik, Astra and Fred were all too wealthy to have bothered to have plundered the hoard originally, and Velus had been too shy to be the only one to do so.) Returning to where the blades were, they attempted to jam them using the goblets.
