"She was overheard saying that it was where she was going."

"But to have got here by this time you must have left Caemlyn at about the same time as me, if not even earlier. So the maid must have been murdered before I left. Why have I heard nothing of this?"

"It was naturally hushed up. Only a few know of it."

"But why send you after her? You don't seem an obvious choice. You're not even an Allarian."

"The King chose me because he had heard of my success in bringing another fugitive to justice. Does the 'case of the speckled band' mean anything to you?"

1. "Yes, it does."
2. "No. I don't believe a word of this. Why have you told such a ridiculous lie?"
