While it was true that Velus was dirty, he did not appreciate his unexpected dip. Neither his boyish nor his doggy side was very keen on bathing. Doing the doggy paddle, he got out of the water as quickly as possible. Then he tried to get his revenge on Astra by shaking water from his coat over her, but she merely laughed.

Once Francis was clean, he emerged from the lake, dried off and got dressed. "You spoke earlier of our making common cause," Astra reminded him. "That would be against the dragon, I take it?"

  1. "Of course."
  2. "You're here after the dragon? Oh! I'd assumed that you were here for the same reason that I was." Fred was astonished. "If it's not the dragon that you're after, then what?" he asked.
