Cautiously, Fred lifted the corner of the rug and picked up the bugle he
found underneath.
Ah, he thought, to relive my idyllic youth as a bard! If only
a tragic cottage cheese incident had not killed both my parents and forced
me into the hero business to survive!
He put the bugle to his lips and started to play.

But he couldn't get a note out. Something was stuck inside the bugle.

At the sound of his song, several dozen ferrets appeared from every possible hiding place and looked ready to follow him.

And found he couldn't stop. The bugle must be cursed!

But it just didn't sound right without the drums. Sighing, he looked around for somewhere to put it.

And an answering note sounded from somewhere close by. It seemed to be coming from outside.

He finished the song, tears welling in his eyes with the memories it brought back. Turning around, he found he had an audience.

Someone banged on the ceiling from above. "Will you stop that noise! Some of us are trying to sleep!"

And the bugle bit him!

But first, he wiped off the mouthpiece.
