Since Fred is already dead, he can't die again.

  1. His skull miraculously reassembles itself, leaving no sign of any injury.
  2. Though most of his skull is missing and bits of mashed brain are dropping out, this doesn't seem to affect Fred at all, though it makes his companions feel decidedly queasy.
