Once More Into the Breach

The commandos obeyed instantly, firing their cannon and heavy missiles, and the placid shoreline lit up with explosions. The rebel missile emplacements were hidden everywhere - in the boats, the huts, and even blatantly set up along the shore. Within moments the seven had reached the piers, which were now all ablaze. All around them was a conflagration of shattered boats, burning piers and wrecked rebel weaponry.

"Welcome to the party!" Duke laughed, spraying some remaining boats down with f-cannonfire against orders.

"Quit playing around! Advance into the city."

The Fightech charged, the cement cracking under each ponderous, clanging step. Soon the huts were behind them, and they had entered Alessora proper. The streets were eerily empty except for some parked sonicars. Then the ambush was sprung. Assualt cannon fire and plasma grenades came flooding down from the windows and rooftops, turning the street into a massive fiery inferno.

"Idiots!" Duke sneered, returning fire. Dead rebels soon came tumbling down along with the rain of fire. "Do they think they can actually hurt us with that piddling crap?!"

"Don't waste your time, keep moving!" yelled the Commander. "One direct hit with those grenades can do serious damage!"

Just as they had almost reached the end of the street, three 9' tall metal suits, decorated green and blue, sprang around the corner and opened fire. Vaughn was in the lead. "I didn't know they had Fightechs!" Vaughn gaped. "I... augh!!"

"Vaughn!!!" the Commander yelled as f-cannonfire riddled the man's Fightech and he stumbled back slowly, fell to the ground and exploded in a fireball of flying parts.

"You sons of bitches!" Thelonius yelled, flying up to Vaughn's side and launching a heavy Hammerhead missile at the closely packed rebel suits. The ensuing explosion blew two of them to pieces, and the third stumbled back before a hail of f-cannonfire from Slash, Blue 5 and Davis brought it to the ground in a fiery heap.

1. "I can't believe it." Blue 5 said.
