Just after Astra had coughed, it occurred to Captain Mountebank that this
would be an ideal opportunity to try to convert the harpy. All the time
she carried him by her taloned left foot, she could not avoid hearing his
words. The first step would be to find out which religion, if any, she
currently followed. "Which god or goddess do you believe in?" he asked.
To Astra's horror, the harpy's only response was to let go of the missionary. She saw him fall with a despairing cry and then, some twenty seconds later, splash into the sea far below. "Why did you do that?" she asked. "I thought that you were supposed to bring us all unharmed to the Hall of the Mountain King?" "He was going to try to convert me to whatever religion it was that he believed in," the harpy said. "There's nothing that annoys me more."
