The Never Ending Quest - Episode 24684

In the foothills of the shreken the Whitecloaks known as Sister Liza and Brother Mulgrow and their two trackers were coming closer to Chuckies home. Even though the last traces of the outburst Mulgrow felt the previous night had dissipated, they could still hold a straight course. This was not only since Mulgrow had been able to pinpoint it's place of origin, but because it had now been replaced by something much darker, something Mulgrow couldn't quite identify. Both whitecloaks had drawn their conclusions however and they had sent one of the trackers back to Mudspot were he could send a warning to the Whitehand. Meanwhile they were proceeding ready to meet their worst nightmares.
Somewhere in the vast tunnels and caves of the Shreken Mountains the man known as Old Alfredo stumbled blindly through the darkness. He was famished and exhausted but he did not stop to rest. He didn't care where he was going or if he died down there in the dark. His only thought was to keep on moving, to escape his tormentor. She mustn't find him again!
Farther to the west, in the Nelon forest, the creature that was once known as Astra of Aquilaria was running eastward as swiftly as she could. She had improved her human legs to increase her speed and endurance and they now resembled those of the giant runningbirds that lived out on the plains. So far she had avoided such changes as she would not be able to take back her original form, and she might still need the guise of a human body, but now time was short. If she wore a cloak or some other garment to hide her abnormal legs she would still pass for a normal woman.
Two days earlier she had been visited by a messenger from the ShadowRealm. It was a slimy thing that moved through her mind, without a body of its own and a cracked and empty voice.

"In less than a fortnight the hosts of the Shadow will again be drawn into war with the Living. The upper gods will surely not be pleased by this. They will send their forces to Earth, and when they do Hela will send her minions to meet them. In the following clash between Heaven and Hell we of the Shadow Realm will be crushed and spread by the winds, all because of one traitorous snakeling!" The voice laughed with surprising mirth. "You must destroy this snakeling before she destroys us!"

"Why would I want to stop a Shadow War?" was Astras' reply. "I owe no loyalty to the Shadow Realm."

The voice laughed again, "Loyal or not, you are of the Shadow. You do however have a personal interest in this too. The wyrm that took the life of Astra of Aqualaria was but a servant of this snakeling. She is responsible for your death. Will you let her go unpunished?" The voice started laughing before continueing, "You will find her dwelling in the abandoned dwarven city of Guld Helms Keep." With that the messenger was gone.

Astra did not like being manipulated to do the work of the Shadow Realm. She would take her revenge on this "snakeling", but after that she would seek out the ones who would use her as a pawn in a board game and punish them too.
