"Follow that corridor. It will branch into two directions. Going left will lead you to companions, while going right will lead you to items. That is all I can say, or do for you at this time."

Fred's first impulse was to kill the tiger quickly, before the powerful beast could attack. However, he remembered the wizard's words -- could this be one of the 'companions' of which he spoke? Fred held his sword in a defensive position, ready to slash at the tiger if it made any move to attack.

The tiger seemed to be steady on its feet now. It stopped, and stared at Fred, but made no move toward him or away from him. It stayed two sword lengths away from Fred. "It is almost as if it is doing the same thing I am -- trying to understand, in its way, if I am a threat or not. It must not be hungry, or it would have attacked me. I wonder what the tiger was attacking before it was encased in the stone?"

It appeared to be a real tiger, though. It definitely smelled like one, with the rank odour of a wild animal. The way back was clear -- Fred could retreat without any trouble.

1. Fred slowly retreats.
2. Fred tries to talk to the tiger, to see if it understands him.
