Fred remembered that Leonora had claimed to be the daughter of the Duke of
Collins. [10982] She was already very grateful to him for rescuing her,
and no doubt her father would be too. But the Duke of Collins was a very
influential man, so it couldn't hurt to be seen to be generous. "You can
keep one of the chalices for your help in carrying the treasure," he told
her.
"Thank you," she said, "but I couldn't possibly. You deserve to have all of the treasure for your heroism in killing the dragon and rescuing me." This girl is beautiful, unselfish and innocent, and she seems to hero worship me, Fred thought. And the Duchy of Collins is a far richer one than my own family's. If I play my cards right, then there could be a greater prize for me than even the dragon's treasure. Yes, marriage to Leonora would do very nicely.
