Fred knew that he/she would never be able to convince the King, or anyone
else, of his/her true identity. Nowhere in Allaria would be safe for him
once Velus had told his story. He could chase after Velus, but the boy
could almost certainly travel faster than he could in his new body,
especially encumbered by heavy armour as he was. Perhaps he should discard
his armour, and put Leonora's chemise back on? But he couldn't bring
himself to do that.
No, he would have to make a new life for himself. At least he had completed his quest first, so he need not feel dishonored. Of course, there had been the little matter of abandoning Velus not long ago, which hadm't exactly been honorable. But the fates seemed already to have punished him for that, so he could feel that the slate had been wiped clean. He would find a new country. At least he would be rich enough to be able to live in comfort. Where should he go? Which country was reasonably close, was one where Allarians rarely went, and where women had full rights?
