Astra Plans Her Escape

A better bet might be to climb out of one of her windows, perhaps using the traditional knotted sheets. However further guards would be patrolling the palace grounds. They would probably spot her even before she could reach the ground. Even if she managed to evade them, she would still have to find a way of either scaling the outer wall that surrounded the grounds or of getting through the gates unobserved.

Another idea occurred to her. Perhaps she could take Gilder hostage, and then threaten to kill him unless the guards allowed her safe passage out of the palace and its grounds? They had taken her dagger from her following her threatening of Fred, of course, [21799] but the snoring governor had a sword in a scabbard at his belt. It was no more than decoration so far as he was concerned of course, but she might be able to put it to good use.

1. Astra decides to climb out of the window.
2. Astra decides to take Gilder hostage.
3. Astra finds it hard to concentrate on her escape. For some reason, she is unable to get the story of Fred out of her mind.
