A Touch of the Weird....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23523

Jarlath

We hope that Aaron can be crowned King of Zendara as soon as is decent after the funeral.

We've been flying through the air for a while, and after the first travel break Mirage had muttered something about not ever remembering her carpet rides with Alladin ever being this...uncomfortable. Don't think she'd been meant to be overheard and indeed has been ever polite and gracious, but right now by the stories she'd shared with us previously of her homeland/world had left me green eyed with jealousy! If only this "Carpet's" more....

Ah, but then again "Carpet" was (besides being a person in it's own right) a much higher order of magic item than what I and the other mages of Terra Prime can do right now. Well, then again not much research had been done in improving the "creature comforts" of flying carpets and such. Maybe I'll hop onto that project when I....

Yeah, later....

Well, anyway, to this business at hand. If I had my choice I'd rather we'd been able to go directly to see Erica and arrange things, but then again it appears to be the best course of action. Cementing the seat of power for Aaron for his country (and eventually Illura).....

Then again, I might be totally wrong! Blast it, I never was any good with politics! Yes, I know I'm supposed to be a son of a duke and all, but.....heh.... Let us just say that even before the mage tower I'd been studying in, even at such a young and tender age that I had run away to study the sweet ways of magery. Sigh, I make a much better mage than I shall ever a statesman.

Hell, even still have a hard time, sometimes in ordinary social gatherings. I shudder to think what kind of gaffs I'd make in engaging in actual politics. Whenever such matters had come up, I'd stepped back and let my much more astute wife, Astra, take over....

"This is risky," I sigh softly as the wind whips by as we fly as I make a small course correction via a magical command.

"Nothing worth doing is without that, friend." the one known as Mirage says at my side, "Though I must admit.....I am more than nervous about this business myself, necessarily though it is."

"Yeah," Annafrid sighs, "Would look bad and send the wrong message..."

Well, one thing I am pretty sure about on what we soon do. It sure makes for a GREAT entrance (and a very UNSETTLING entrance) when we fly RIGHT into the very palace of Aaron's father in the capital city.

What happens next seems to involve a lot of surprise when Aaron himself seems to interrupt the procession of mourners passing the body of the king.

Ah, yes, I think I'd better explain something here before we continue by the looks I see. You see, unlike in "modern" times (like those worlds with "high technology" akin to the 20th century and such with embalming fluids), a corpse (even a royal one) gets placed into the tomb as soon as feasible. They....tend to smell....after too long...

After shouting down the guards who see Illura (and seem ready to arrest her)..... Still shaken by our unusual and unexpected arrival (as well as our unusual appearance), it seems a knee jerk reaction brought on by the last royal decree (or supposed decree...mayhaps). Who knows what kind of funky stuff the cronies in the court under Samuel's been passing off as the actual (if dying and delerious) King have given off).

Will have to ask here sooner or later. Adding that to the list as like why he had us fly into here directly instead of a more mundane manner. Seemed almost over the top, but then again I guess being that Aaron's familar with his brand of royal politics and such....

"Whatever," I sigh softly, repeating the favorite saying of my friend, Eddie Dean of Roland's "ka-tet) would probably say in such a situation...

"The children of Hengist have come to see their father off," he says quietly, a bit choked with emotion at seeing his father...or rather the shell of his father.

He then gather himself and loudly proclaims to the entire room that no hand shall be raised again his sister, on pain of death.

See, he'd been about uniting what should have never been divided, no thanks to nothing less than a plot to weaken this great kingdom.

More than a few faces go pale at THAT one, let me tell you. The room begins whispering and such, much like a henhouse in a way.... Aaron just throw down a political "hand grenade" there, I see. His decree, as heir apparent.....

Looks like a few people are....rather not thrilled at this political maneuver....but now seems that they've been outclassed....at least for now.... Aaron does have the best claim to the throne, and with amnesty to the New Amazons (and Illura)....as well as PUBLICALLY naming them as offical members of the royal army (causes quiet stir with that one....but.....)....

  1. One by one, those in this room kneel, accepting...
