It soon became apparent that Astra's punch had not cured Fred of whatever
was ailing him. He looked around at the small clearing, and at the trees
that surrounded it. Then his gaze was drawn to the mountains that could be
seen through and above the trees, and he burst into song again:
"The hills are alive with the sound of music,
His voice was a pleasant baritone. Before he could begin the second verse, Astra walked into the clearing, still wearing his cloak but no longer having the three foot length of chain that she had been carrying earlier. In her hand she held a bunch of white flowers that she had presumably just picked. Fred thought that they might be edelweiss. Walking up to him, Astra sang (contralto): "Climb ev'ry mountain,
Clearly Astra too had fallen prey to the enchantment, which seemed to be even worse than had at first been apparent. Not only were Fred and Astra compelled to sing, but they had to sing overly sentimental songs from a musical that belonged far in the future and in a different reality.
