Closer to the goal, perhaps, but right now...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23332

Cuthbert

I look down at the small mage as his tail wages a little as he breaks contact. Do believe that the "meet" (as some are in the wont to put it) went well indeed for Synizn.

"There," he says. "I think that should do it."

He then gives me the details of the meeting, and I find I can breath again.

"Of that I am so very glad to hear," I say, most sincerely and without a trace of my usual errant humor.

Honestly, whilst I am not one to back down from challenges, I would have forgotten the face of my father if I was to say that I am looking forward to facing the challenges of an unknown magical threat from some mysterious, secretive magic users if they should try to call the bluff instead of falling for it. I and my mates are formidable enough, but only an utter fool would openly court conflict!

Samuel, I fear, was the only immediate threat to Rebecca and I have a feeling that the mystery mage that Synizn contacted could well be another one in the wings, perhaps malignant and seeking revenge or perhaps benign but misguided. Could be that, in the course of things, they might come to fear that their world itself is threatened, seeing that it seems to all come from one (or more) sources. They, I wont, will feel a frantic need to perhaps stamp out the source of all this chaotic surges and might, despite our apparent superiority in magical might, try to try something underhanded in order to save themselves (and perhaps mistakenly believe the world) in the process.

Can see that happening all too easily, even IF they do actually go about freeing Eric. Too easy to imagine the mystery mages doing it in order to lull us all into a false sense of smugness....

And just how in the name of the Dark Tower are we to know that Eric is free and clear until MUCH later (like days or weeks) unless we initiate contact again, somehow?! No, we agreed to sit pat (magically) and wait for more mundane channels (like messenger and town criers) on that score. Yes, somebody will play the spy amongst the group at some kind of magically unrazed town or village (somewhere) and listen in....for the right news....

Listen for news about the throne regaining Eric (or vice versa) and the death of....Aaron's father.... Then and only then perhaps can we make a move and have Illura make a move for her nations throne. That after somehow making it appear that a mad assassin set on publicly killing Illura is stopped by Aaron, but Aaron gets mortally wounded in the process.

Something like that. Just a rough idea for right now. Needing to still hammer out the details, I fear.

Ah, but I cry your pardon!

Synizn has pardoned himself from the rest and is going over to talk to those odd vixentaurs he mentioned earlier to me....and I'd rather like to learn more about them myself.....and my mind could use the distraction from my worries.

  1. "Man cannot live on bread alone..." they say, and a little recreational distraction would be nice right about now. Who knows, they might even have something useful to say?
