Astra swung her sword at the guard, who dodged back out of reach. In
another
demonstration of Newton's Third Law of Motion, she found herself drifting
slowly backwards, until she came up against a wall.
It belatedly occurred to the smaller guard that he was in an armoury, and that if he picked up a weapon with a longer reach than his opponent's, then since she could not manoeuvre herself he would have a big advantage. He grabbed a spear and, holding it at the extreme rear end of its eight foot shaft, prodded it towards Astra. "Drop the s-sword, lady, or I'll run you through," he squeaked. Astra wasn't sure that he would have the nerve to do it, but she had no such doubts about the other guard standing behind him. If she had had both her feet on solid ground, she would have been confident of her ability to take them both out, but floating as she was she was at too big a disadvantage. Scowling, she dropped the sword. It floated a couple of feet away from her. Nervously, and keeping an eye on her the whole time, the man retrieved it. Gaining in confidence a little, he said: "That armour you're wearing doesn't belong to you either. Take it off, please." Not realising that she was doing a near re-enactment of the opening scene of Barbarella, Astra complied. With various pieces of her discarded armour now floating about, the armoury became even more cluttered than before. "Now tie her up," the larger guard ordered his colleague, handing him a coil of rope. Having to put down the spear for this, the young man seemed more nervous than ever.
