Time for a More Subtle Approach

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 22679

"I'm not making any impression on these chains," Fred said after a few minutes. "All I'm doing is blunting my sword and my dagger."

"What about where they are fastened to the wall?" Exotica suggested. "Might there be a weak point there?"

Fred knelt down to take a closer look, since his torch did not provide that much light. "Yes!" he exclaimed. "You were right. They are fastened by screws. If I use the point of my dagger, I might be able to unscrew them."

Sure enough, ten minutes later the princess was free. "Come on!" she said. "Let's go and see to that dragon."

"I think that I should escort you to the exit," Fred said.

"Didn't I tell you? The dragon's magic ensures that no-one can leave whilst the beast is alive."

So they headed deeper into the caves. The chains round Exotica's ankles made a clanking noise as they were dragged behind her along the tunnel floor. Anyone in the vicinity would be warned of their approach.

After a while:

  1. They felt faint and fell over, though remaining awake.
  2. They encounted a man wearing a wizard's robe, who said that his name was Belboz. Was he unable to leave the caves, like everyone else?
