The Flaming Black Void

As if to add force to her words, a great flame suddenly came out of the void, and they flung themselves backwards. Fortunately they weren't hurt. By the time they had picked themselves up again, the flame had gone as suddenly as it had appeared.

"I don't think it liked being jumped on," Astra said.

"Or maybe it was a delayed response to Velus peeing in it," Fred suggested. "Be that as it may, it seems that it has blocked off going any further via the marketplace. We shall have to backtrack and look for another route."

1. That was what they did.
2. But the black void started to evaporate as inexplicably as it had formed. Soon all was as if it had never existed.
