You decide to come out of your fugue state but find that it is not possible. A fugue state "is a rare psychiatric disorder characterized by reversible amnesia for personal identity, including the memories, personality and other identifying characteristics of individuality. The state is usually short-lived (ranging from hours to days), but can last months or longer. Dissociative fugue usually involves unplanned travel or wandering, and is sometimes accompanied by the establishment of a new identity."
Although the fugue states is "usually" short-lived, your case lasts "for months or longer." You begin wandering aimlessly through the caves. For days, months, and even years, you wander in your new identity of a homeless bum. Frequently you forget to eat, you never bathe, and you almost always forget not to soil yourself.
