The pirate survivors

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 2156

A large collection of random pleasure ship passengers were sprawled on the beach. Boats bobbed in the water. Five hundred yards off, two ships burned merrily. One clearly had a pirate's flag on the mast.
Many of the passengers were injured.
Some were clearly dead.
The group gasped as two humanoid foxes stumbled upon their scene.
Some backed away. Others began to cry, wondering what new horrors would attack them now. A burly youngster cried out and stumbled forward, clearly intending to protect the more injured. But he was clearly injured also, with cuts up and down his arms and two dislocated fingers. Alicia grabbed his injured hand and held it up. She put a finger to her mouth. The boy squeezed his eyes shut and Alicia quickly popped the fingers back in.
The passengers, battered and bruised, were not stupid. They clearly realized the two furred beasts were here to help and were happy.
Fred and Alicia spent a gruseome hour. Even with the help of other morphs that showed, ten of the injured died. In the end, fifty one newcomers were on the beach. Only thirty one were mobile.
Soon, a leader of the group became apparent. An older man who had quite a good grasp of medicine. He wore a wrinkled black suit with a purple shirt underneath. He had a thin, flat white bear, a round puggish nose and blue eyes that amazingly kept a sparkle in them througout all this. He walked with a years-old limp up and down the beach.
He introduced himself as Samuel and once the crisis was past, made with trying to establish relations between the beast-humans and the unaffected. His main counter part was Arnold, who Alicia introduced as a former diplomat and the most sensible one of all the furred.
Of course they could not speak back. Samuel soon negotiated a complex agreement where the injured could stay with the furred while some of the uninjured would take the boats back to the mainland to get help.
Something about this doesn't seem right to Fred. He concentrates amidst the chaos and tries to figure out just what is bothering him.

  1. He is worried that other humans won't react so well to the presence of the furred.
  2. He is worried that the dragon will detect the presence of humans on 'his' island.
  3. All of the above.
  4. That the pirates might have allies who would come looking for them.
  5. How did random civillians survive the attack while all the pirates were destroyed? Might some still live?
  6. That he knew very little about the society of the furred.
