"What a bizarre contraption', thought Fred. 'It reminds
me of the
windmills in the villages near the Calamari, and how levers can control the
flow of water
from their deep wells so that the people there can survive living in that
parched land. But
this device is connected to a volcano! Certainly, whoever
built it has
greater knowledge of such things then do the people of the Great Kingdom.
But what is its
purpose?'
His curiosity gets the better of him and he brashly pushes the button marked with the runes for smoke and ash. He immediately notices that one of the strange windows that are framed within the metal table has become obscured with smoke. Obviously, this window looks out upon the volcano in which he now stands, and the volcano has reacted to the button that he has pushed. Wow! Fred is impressed. These magic windows would be great if they were built into a castle. Guard duty would be a cinch. He is so captivated staring into the magic window and at the results of what he has done, that he doesn't notice movement on one of the other magic windows. A group of large, burning creatures has risen up from a lava stream and now approach the door to the control room.
