And with that, Fred tramped out of the cave mouth to meet the metal soldiers. "Heroes," sighed Irena to herself, but she followed Fred anyway. In spite of herself, she still liked him, and besides he was the only one who had a weapon.
Not that conventional weapons would seem to be of much use against these soldiers. They were bulky and only vaugely manlike in form, and were made of a metal resembling bronze. At their head was a figure who had a body that seemed smaller but more finely detailed and more manlike. It was made of a silvery metal. The silver golem turned his head and saw Fred. "Halt. Inferior lifeform detected." Beams of light seemed to come from its eyes and lift Fred off the ground. "Scanning lifeform to determine threat level," it said with a cold monotone.
