Destiny

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20808

Please release me," said Irena.

Wincerind saddly shook his head. "Sorry, but though I am a wizard, I am unable to do spellwork."

"What?!?" said Fred and Irena simultaneously.

"Why'd you call yourself a wizard if you can't do any wizardry?" said Fred.

"Because I can't run away from my Destiny!" he said in seeming frustration.

"Huh?" said Irena.

"Look, I say I am a wizard because I am a wizard! Even though I don't like it, even though I can't do one stupid trick, even though the Guild dues are overcharged and the benefits are piss-poor. I have tried to be a tailor, a cook, a cobbler, a monk... but my Destiny keeps on finding me and making my life horrible!"

Suddenly a strange shuffling was heard coming from down a corridor.

"Oh no!" said Irena thinking it was the Dragon.

"Oh no!" said Fred thinking it was the Dragon.

"Oh no!" said Wincerind who was pretty sure it wasn't the Dragon.

Suddenly the squat form of a chest came into view... and it was walking! It was walking upon hundreds of little legs! It shuffled up to Wincerind and sort of cooed.

"Aigh!" said Irena.

"Ugh!" said Fred.

"Oh bloody great!" said Wincerind.

Looking at our two heroes he said: "Folks, meet Destiny."

Once a long explanation was concluded Wincerind sighed and sat down. Then Fred, still eyeballing the living chest, said: "Look, I know you, uh, can't do magic... but, uh, maybe you can translate a scroll I have here." He produced the mysterious scroll and the wizard looked it over.

Wincerind was still for a moment, pulling his beard in thought. Then, he lit up with sudden realization. "I know what this is! This is a perfect example of Urkjant's Bibliographical Deflector! That is a spell that can be cast on a piece of writing so that it can only be read by its intended recipient. Anyone else sees only gibberish. I can't read it. Sorry."

"Darn!" said Fred, then he had an idea. "Hey, you said you belong to the Mage's Guild. You should know a few wizards who might be able to work on this thing, and Irena's bonds as well."

"Well, now that you mention it... uh, I'm not exactly liked by most sorcerers."

"Hela!" said Irena. "I don't want you to get me a date! I want to be free of these chains!"

"Alright, alright!" said Wincerind. "I'll go and get some help. It's going to take some time, though. The nearest aviary is a few leagues away from here."

"Fine, fine" grumbled Irena. "You just make sure you get help."

  1. Wincerind leaves with Destiny by his side...
  2. Wincerind leaves and Fred accompanies him, with Destiny coming along as well...
