The Damaged Freighter

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20707

As I neared the co-ordinates, I discovered that the distress call had come from a large freighter. When I say "large" I mean large; she was at least eight times the size of my own vessel. There was a gaping hole in her side, about fifty feet aft of the bows. Had she been hit by a large meteor, or was it the result of something more sinister? Unusually (and illegally), she bore no name or registration number on her hull.

I tried to hail her by radio, but got no response.

  1. I got as close as I dared, matched her heading and speed, and set the autopilot to maintain the distance. Then I suited up.
  2. I decided that discretion was the better part of valour.
  3. Then I saw a spacesuited figure just inside the hole in her side, waving to me.
