They duck into the bushes next to Stefan. There's no sense in trying to
fight; they're
probably outnumbered and outarmed. The Seeker feels he should try to help
the man,
but there's nothing he can do.
Just as they're safely hidden, the horsemen ride past, three of them, apparently well-armed and well-armored. If they catch the man he's probably doomed. The Seeker wonders what he has done. The men cross the road and vanish into the forest after the man, their hoofbeats dying away in the distance. Soon they're gone and the forest is silent. Karen and The Seeker are about to step out of the bushes when they hear a rustling and see the first man step out onto the path, his back to Karen and The Seeker. He brushes off some dirt and foliage, then rubs his arm and stifles a grunt. He then turns and looks into the woods in the direction the men went. "It's a shame," he says to himself. "That was a pretty good horse. Better losing it than my life, I guess." The Seeker looks up at the man and realizes that he recognizes him. It's...
