"When you say 'seek the crown', asks The Seeker, "do you mean as in 'get
yourself made
king' or just that they've lost that metal thing that kings put on their
heads?"
"The former," says Dr Hashimoto. "It shouldn't really be that difficult to
achieve,
since kings are assassinated at such a rate there that few people seem to
want the
job any more. All you have to do is come up with a half-convincing claim
that you're
Duke Whoever's long-lost nephew, or something like that."
"But why should I want to be king?" The Seeker asks. "Well, somebody's got to be. When an important person from that country came to us recently looking for a candidate, we naturally thought of you. Look at all the experience you've had with that sort of story-line recently. It must count for something. And the point about having a goal is not that it should be desirable in itself, but that the attaining of it should stretch you and make you develop as a person. And you should find it very interesting. Zolboda is a very Ruritanian sort of country." The Seeker is not altogether convinced.
