The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20549

Cuthbert

Indeed, what is the quest?

Oh, 'tis simple enough to say, but to do it? That remains to be seen.

Oh, it is so very true about the Celestrials not normally intervening on behalf of individuals (either by proxy or in person). However, this case is far from normal.

Understand, I asked myself that very thing when they first told me of what I was to do. I would have asked even if I was not known to always seem to have a question on my lips on one thing or another (always trying to learn more or gain further insight).

......

Some I hear say I would die with a question on my lips.

In the old....er....timeline back on Midworld I had died with a question on my lips when I, in some kind of madness or some such, had forced Roland and my friend Alain to shoot me!

Hmph.

Well, enough of that!

Still can not quiet come to make myself see how I could have.... Oh, I know the details on how it came about and understand it after a fashion, but......

Sigh, guess I should consider myself lucky for having met Joan when things changed. Roland's wife is beautiful and nice, but frankly I am not attracted to her. Joan captured my heart completely and kept it even after she told me about what she was before being transformed.

Lord knows that sometimes even the best can use a guide! Joan is that and much more....

She's my better half....

.....

Well, to business.

"It has everything to do with that angel having overstepped himself and sending Stacy (now Rebecca) into that world," I begin, "This quest is set up along the lines that she shall be playing the same part that Andrea 2....and Andrea 2a played when many of you became Champions. That and more, I fear...."

"A prize or a token," Andrea 2 says softly, remembering how the Unseelie Court would have converted her to one of their Hounds for their Hunts if the Champions hadn't won that contest (re: 11866).

"But there was more to that quest than just me and I suspect there is more here?" Andrea 2 asks, fox ears perked up in curiosity.

"Basically, yes," I say, scowling a little bit as I remember just what is at stake here, "Basically it comes down to this. A basic right, actually. If we lose she, and her entire reality, for that matter, shall suffer for it. A Challenge has been made by the Demons over this to the Angels, and as what I can tell of it, it finally landed in the lap of the Rules and Agents (who would qualify as a third party to settle disputes). The Demons were denied access to a chance at getting her when she was to be finally judged by that angel who overstepped himself. Oh, they wouldn't have gotten her, I'm sure, but....."

"The principle of the thing, I am sure," somebody muttered sarcastically.

The truth, that. If the forces of Hell can cause their Celestrial "cousins" trouble through a technicality from a denied Judgement, then they'd take it and smile. Smile and hiding behind the "letter of the law" as it were.

Hypocritical....

"Basically, if we fail she won't....die....exactly," I explain.

What would happen is this. Since she was thrown back into life through illegitimate means, the Demons would be happy enough to just keep here there! She'd die, come back, die, come back. That and her entire world. They and all the others would keep finding themselves in a strange room each time, just like this one fellow named Scott had..... See, at this point in time the curtain between the realm that Rebecca's world dwelled in was rather thin at that moment. A turning point was in the works. If the curtain should fall, the world would fall through into a place called.....Addventure (Game 3).

It would be, quiet frankly, a living Hell. Oh, maybe not always, but each person would know (at one time or another), that their current run of good luck was only a temporary reprieve for the next time an Author (or whatever) decided that things were getting boring....

"Basically we have a damsel in distress," I finish off softly, "We must rescue Rebecca and stop her husband before he consigns all of his world to Addventure."

That meant, of course, something much more than just rescuing Rebecca, you see. Samual isn't the type to let things lay as they are if his ego gets bruised, I feel. Too big of insult and all that. He'll keep coming, with his soldiers and his cronies until he get's Rebecca back and back in her place (and all women back in their place as he sees it).

A cold, smile crosses my lips as I nod to myself.

Somehow, we had to stop Samual, I feel, in the end.

Now, there is a method of saying things that caught my attention back when I was on vacation with some of Joan 2's friends. We'd travel by TARDIS to that one Earth orbiting that alien blue giant sun. I had taken a picture of this one friendly chap named John Hall as he took a picture of both Betty 1 and 2 posing by a real Police Box located near a London "Tube" terminal. . . .

That relic had stayed while much had changed after that Earth's teleporting into the Terra Prime universe, a historic monument of sorts.

But anyway, the thing that really struck a chord within me for some reason was the British understatement. Quiet effective and economical, in a real sense.....to convey so much with so little, verbally speaking.

"I believe this shall be a very interesting quest," I say, nodding to myself.

Yep, very interesting.

After my announcement, we had proceeded to the next event of the day.

This quest is going to be something of a honeymoon of sorts.

Damn odd way to spend a honeymoon but something withing me...... And the others......wants it that way.

See, as I said earlier today was to be my wedding day to Joan 2 after I got back from the Rules and Agents.

If I had failed, today would have been a funeral for me instead, but that's another thing that I know wouldn't have happened!

Let us just say that I know what my heart is....in regards to Joan 2!

No, the thing that's going to make this more interesting is that Joan 2's sister, Joan, is coming along as well! Seems that today she'd expected something else from her boyfriend, and.....

What a creep! Remind me to "talk" with him after this is all said and done!

He had gotten abusive, wanting Joan to act one way and be one way (submissive) and Joan had basically broken his jaw....and the engagement.

Things had been ailing anyway, and I'm rather happy that it had fallen apart. Oh, we other had known that this guy was a "creep" but try to tell that to Joan! Still, I'd rather like to add to this "creep's" pain.

So, we're going to have some fun, I feel..... As Joan comes along and salves her hurting feelings with comradery and adventure.....

"God must have a sense of humor," I mutter to myself, "She's going to be in a fine mood!"

At least magic will work there (wonder how the demifoxes would react otehrwise), but there is something I feel that might....add to the adverstity in the Challenges were going to face soon because of that...

Just a feeling.....

I put that feeling aside as Joan, ready, steps up with us. She's still a touch upset about the recent breakup.

  1. However, she'll not fail us. She shall remember the face of her father, I feel....as we step through the Door that Rule 179 opens up and step into an alien world...
