You wonder why everyone (well Aaron certainly and Samuel apparently) should
be acting
as though the remaining New Amazons can actually achieve
anything. As far as you know, "your" group were the only survivors of the
battle, and
they can't be more than twenty or so strong. Samuel probably
doesn't know that, of course, though he will almost certainly know by now
that the king's
forces won the recent battle.
When you were first told that the New Amazons were prepared to accompany you into Daria, you had been pleased; going in a group somehow seemed safer. Now you realise thar the group would be too small to be significant militarily, and would destroy any chance that you and Aaron might have had of slipping into the country undetected. Then it belatedly occurs to you that both you and Aaron have somehow overlooked his twisted ankle. Unless he makes a miraculous recovery there is no way that you can catch up with the New Amazons anyway. Then Sarah runs into the clearing, catching you and Aaron by surprise. From her laboured breathing, it seems that she has been running for some time. She sees you, comes to a halt and pants: "Thank God... you're still... here. Oh, and Aaron... too," as she notices that he is present as well.
