The three of you follow at a safe distance for a while, but as time passes
you begin to
worry. The man's pace has naturally slackened somewhat, to a brisk jog, but
he must be fairly fit as he
is still
going pretty well. Fortunately all three of you are also in good condition,
but you
aren't sure that you can keep this up much longer and Sarah is also
beginning to show
signs of strain. The hour you were allowed must have passed some time ago,
and the sun
is beginning to get low in
the sky. You must be some five miles from your camp by now. What if you
don't get back
before nightfall? It would be ironic
were you and Aaron to be left behind when the others head for Daria. You
could perhaps
overtake them later, but even then it would be rather embarrassing.
Then you notice that the trees are beginning to thin out a little. You can see that there is a clearing a hundred yards or so ahead, and in the clearing is what appears to be a sizeable camp. You stop running and get behind cover, hoping that no forward sentries have been posted who might have spotted you. The man runs on into the clearing and disappears into one of the tents. You think that Aaron may have made a mistake. You can't see what you can gind out from observing the camp at a safe distance, beyond what you have already learnt: that a substantial force of perhaps thirty or forty unidentified men is camped here. That doesn't seem to help much. Surely catching and interrogating the fugitive would have been a better bet? Aaron whispers to you that if you wait till after dark, he may be able to creep in closer and find out more. Since the men are unlikely to think that there is much risk, they will probably only post a single sentry overnight, whom he can probably either avoid or take out without too much trouble.
